Insure against a poor fitting, or nasty - used timing chip strap. Bring your own! Swap out the race's provision, for your own chip strap. Before you turn in your chip, simply swap straps. Easy peezy. For a running event that provides you with a disposable chip to place within your shoe laces, simply use your own chip ankle strap without having to dismantle your shoe laces at all. Brilliant!
